Rainham School for Girls Year 7 Book Week
Rainham School for Girls welcomed 3 established authors and performers to do special literary sessions the year 7 girls. Also a journalist from The Guardian held a question and answer session with 10 girls all interested in journalism.
- Jasper Cooper: Children's fantasy author with a whole series of published books, including 'Kingdom of Gems' Trilogy. Mr Cooper offered framed and signed prints of the original art-work from his books as the prizes for a writing competition.
- Rob Parkinson is a professional storyteller. He is a talented multi-instrumentalist and his performance will involve a range of interactive storytelling techniques and music as well as opportunities for the students to have a go at telling a story themselves.
- A F Harrold is a multiple poetry slam winner and top UK performance poet, regularly appearing at poetry clubs around the UK and on various radio shows. He has written poetry books for children and adults- his titles include: 'I eat squirrels' 'Logic and the heart' and 'Postcards from the Hedgehog'
- Rob Hastings a professional journalist has reported on a whole range of topical news stories including the Royal Wedding. He will be working with small groups of gifted and talented students throughout the day, answering questions about his job and discussing routes into the competitive world of journalism.
All the year 7s thoroughly enjoyed the day and many were inspired to write stories, read more and fulfil their literary dreams. Special thanks go to Ms Keating (English Teacher) for organising the special event.
